Is the flag of the United States declined during the opening ceremony of the Olympics like any other country flags?
Many countries dip their flag when passing the area where the head of the host country. However, the United States are not. This tradition comes from the 1908 Olympic Games London, where countries were invited to dip their flag to King Edward VII. The flag bearer for the team, Ralph Rose, refused, with Martin Sheridan man famous proclamation that "the hollow flag of any earthly king." The U.S. does dip its flag in 1912, 1924 and 1932 Games. Germany hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in 1936. The refusal of the U.S. Diving team's flag was clearly a referendum on Hitler and Nazi Germany. Most athletes and the American public largely agreed to be undertaken by the Third Reich in sports competitions, but not wet kiss the flag to Hitler or the Nazis. Since 1936, the United States would never again dip the Stars and Stripes Olympics. As the Cold War emerged from the rubble of the Second World War, the idea became so strong that even opponent Avery Brundage, who drives through the U.S. Olympic Committee who became president of the International Olympic Committee can not change tradition.
